Why is it important to yarn with kids?
Yarning across generations is a powerful cultural practice that supports young people's wellbeing. This website helps parents and carers find the information and resources they need to make it easier to yarn with kids about staying safe, healthy and strong. One such resource is Yarning Quiet Ways.
Yarning quiet ways
In 2015, around 80 Aboriginal mums, dads and carers came together and yarned about the need for a resource to help them talk with their kids about:

- being the boss of your body
- changes in their bodies
- saying 'no'
- safer sex
- sex and the law
- teenage pregnancy
- staying safe online
- respectful relationships.
Yarning Quiet Ways is based on an existing resource called Talk Soon Talk Often (external site) but has been written and designed in a way that responds to what the Aboriginal parents and carers wanted. The quotes in this resource come from real Aboriginal parents and carers.
Hard copies of the book can be ordered from the Department of Health warehouse.
This is a free bulk ordering service, with a minimum order of 10 copies.
